Holiday blunders
My funny thing - last night as I was perched on a step ladder putting up my new curtain rods, and carefully measured and marked where to drill the holes...and of course used the stud finder to see if I had to use a wall anchor... had of course to put in a few anchors. Using the plastic ones that came with the rods I gently drilled, then pounded them into the wall. Plaster fell off in big clumps next to the window!!! So spackling paste in hand - knowing I should put some paper down over the carpet but didn't, had some fall in the carpeting. Then once all that was done...Screwed the supplied screw into the anchor, attached the bracket and went to put the other screw in. The second hole was too high! Correcting that would mean pulling the plastic anchor out of the wall (not easy) or covering it over (right on). Then balancing carefully backwards on the ladder, drill in hand, screw in hand, bracket in hand (how many hands does it take?) the Christmas music playing loudly to make me merry, the screw went in most of the way and then the screw head became stripped and wouldn't turn in or come out (I'm really singing the holiday cheer at this point), I decided to pound it in, put it up, and hope that people won't look too closely at the slightly angled rod. But with Charlotte Church singing holiday cheer I had a glass of home made wine and decided to tell anyone that noticed - that my carpenter must have had a bad day.
